While Nintendo is trying to push the Wii U before the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One release later this month, they are having no trouble dominating the handheld market. Nintendo released sales figures for its over 1 million-selling titles on the 3DS in the first half of the fiscal year.

While games like Mario & Luigi: Dream Team and Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon have impressed by selling 1.37 million and 1.91 million respectively, it was Animal Crossing: New Leaf that dominated.

From April through September, Animal Crossing: New Leaf has sold an impressive 2.49 million copies worldwide. What is more impressive however, is that the lifetime sales for the game have now passed 6.35 million. Animal Crossing: New Leaf has already passed the previous installment in the series, Animal Crossing: City Folk, and the original Animal Crossing. It is also possible that it could pass Animal Crossing: Wild World, which has 11.89 million in global sales.

Nintendo's next earnings report will surely remain impressive, as it will include the newly released Pokémon X and Y.
