Ever since Pokémon GO made its debut in 2016 developer Niantic has been regularly updating it with new content. The augmented reality adventure launched with nothing but first generation Pokémon, but its roster has steadily expanded over time. Get ready for Pokémon GO to evolve once more, because Niantic has just revealed the next update, and it's bringing another wave of collectible monsters.

Sometime soon you can expect to start seeing Alolan Forms of classic Pokémon pop up. Alolan Forms, new versions of Kanto Pokémon (with different stats, attacks, and appearances) were introduced in Pokémon Sun and Moon on 3DS, and they represent a different, more realistic take on the idea of Pokémon evolution. These alternate iterations on old creatures have adapted to the island climate of Alola, changing their physiology.

We don't yet have an exact release date for Alolan Form Pokémon in Pokémon GO, but it shouldn't be too long of a wait. Niantic says we can expect them to start rolling out "in the coming weeks," so it may be a gradual process rather than a single update.
