Bungie has just officially announced Destiny 2, the sequel to their 2014 sci-fi shooter Destiny, on Twitter. The new game has been hinted at for some time with leaked posters and rumors of a September launch. These have proven to be legit, and we can now expect it to release later this year. Specifically, the game will be releasing on September 8th, 2017, almost three years to the day from its predecessor's launch date. A leaked poster, which you can see in the gallery below, also mentions a beta that will be made available on PlayStation 4 first, although no dates for that have been given yet.

A small thing to note is something a Twitter user has pointed out—that the city burning in the poster is actually The Last City, the metropolis above which the Traveler floats in Destiny. Could this mean that some catastrophe is about to hit the city in the sequel? Or is it just artistic license? It seems we'll have to wait to find out, but hopefully Bungie won't keep us in suspense for too long.

Are you excited for Destiny 2? What improvements do you hope they can make over the original? Let us know in the comments below!
