Metal Gear series creator Hideo Kojima has announced that Death Stranding will not be making an appearance at E3 2017. "Apologies to our fans", he tweeted yesterday, "Death Stranding will not be @ E3 as we are fully focused on development."

Kojima himself, however, will be present on Wednesday, June 14 for a panel at Geoff Keighley's E3 Coliseum. He is set to share the stage with Jordan Vogt-Roberts, director of Kong: Skull Island, who will also be working on a Metal Gear Solid film adaptation.

Death Stranding was announced at E3 last year as the first game to come out of Kojima Productions, the newly independent studio after disbanding as a subsidiary of Konami. The reveal trailer featured Norman Reedus, and later promotional materials revealed that Mads Mikkelsen and Guillermo del Toro are also on the cast.

Even though the game won't be appearing at E3, a new promotional poster is making the rounds and getting fans excited. Both Hideo Kojima's personal twitter account and the official Kojima Productions tweeted the poster, which shows a star-shaped spiderweb on a black background and features the word "Bridges" over Death Stranding.

This word, along with the spiderweb design, had previously appeared on a simple and frustratingly mysterious badge on Guillermo del Toro's character during the second teaser trailer (which you can see in the gallery below). The design was simple and yet frustratingly mysterious: "BRIDGES," in capital letters, rests over a map of America whose states are divided by strands of a cobweb, and "United Cities of America" follows underneath.

A newer theory by Reddit user invisible__hand has taken all this information and postured that the game will be set in South Yorkshire, U.K. on account of a Cobweb Bridge in Sheffield that forms part of the Five Weirs Walk (potentially represented by the five spokes in the cobweb design). Speculation has begun in earnest, and while Kojima-san is so far remaining politely aloof, another fan has reminded us that a surprise may yet be in store:

"At E3 2016, the day before the reveal of Death Stranding, Kojima said he wouldn't show his new game until much later, all while wearing this t-shirt. Don't believe a word that comes out of that man's mouth regarding what he will and won't do." — Reddit user AddedSlime
