For those of you who enjoyed the hit game Fallout: New Vegas, you may have heard an exciting rumor. According to a source for FragHero, who claims to have leaked the announcement of Red Dead Redemption 2, Obsidian Entertainment is working on Fallout: New Vegas 2. According to the site, Obsidian is supposedly planning to reveal the game this year, possibly at E3. However, upon further inspection, it seems this rumor proved to be untrue and the website's track record for credibility is not that great.

After looking more into the matter, writer Jason Schreier at Kotaku discovered that FragHero has done some shady things in the past to get views on their articles so they show up favorably in search engine results. In the case of Red Dead Redemption 2, their article originally read that the game would be titled Red Dead Redemption 2: Legend of the West, which is how we at Gamnesia reported the rumor at the time. However, if you click the source link on that article, the source no longer mentions Legends of the West at all.

Schreier goes on to show multiple examples of FragHero misinforming people of news on nonexistent games like Grand Theft Auto VI and The Elder Scrolls VI. FragHero seems to thrive on false rumors in the hopes of generating excitement. If a game in the same franchise is announced, the writers then go back and change the information to seem like they reported true facts before a game was announced to give themselves false credibility.

On top of this, Kotaku reached out to Obsidian for any information on the game. While they showed their support and love for the franchise, they made it clear that their developers are currently busy working on a new Pillars of Eternity game. They added that they will love the next Fallout game no matter who develops it.

While it wouldn't be considered news to shoot down a rumor, we believe it's important in the case of Fallout: New Vegas 2. FragHero seems to have a decent following and it wouldn't be right to just ignore a rumor of a highly anticipated sequel when it's absolutely false.
