Super Mario Run may be about to reach its 150 millionth download on iOS and Android combined, but the far less popular (in terms of overall downloads) Fire Emblem Heroes is literally giving the iconic plumber a run for his money. The mobile installment in the Fire Emblem series, while being downloaded less than a tenth the amount of Super Mario Run, has raked in more revenue for Nintendo by quite the margin.
At last week's financial results briefing, Nintendo revealed that Fire Emblem Heroes has outsold Super Mario Run by a longshot due to their experimentation in monetization. While many gamers are not purchasing Super Mario Run after downloading it, Fire Emblem Heroes earned more than $5 million in its launch week alone due to its implementation of microtransactions.
