Nintendo's E3 presentation was met with a bit of a mixed reception by fans online. There's a lot of buzz and excitement surrounding the holiday lineup, but some fans were bothered by the absence of games like Metroid Prime 4 and the new Yoshi title. Investors also appear to be disappointed, as Nintendo's stock has sharply declined since the event. However, the sales figures tell a different story.
Eric Bright, GameStop's Vice president of Merchandising, recently sat down with Games Industry to discuss the impact E3 2018 would have on the company for the rest of the year. GameStop is excited for a holiday lineup packed with great games from developers across the board, but he's particularly impressed with Nintendo.
"Nothing beats Nintendo's overall announcements. Super Smash Bros is jumping right up to the top of the [pre-order] list. We're also seeing great reaction from Pokémon Let's Go, both SKUs, and then of course people are trying to get their hands on the Pokéball [controller] as well. Nintendo fans are definitely reacting." — Eric Bright
According to Bright, Nintendo Switch sales at GameStop doubled in the week following E3 thanks to hype for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and the Pokémon: Let's Go games. Imagine how much of an impact those games will have on Switch sales when they're actually available!
