Gearbox Software, the studio that created Borderlands 1 and 2, will begin focusing on the newest Borderlands game once they have finished work on Battleborn. This was announced by company president Randy Pitchford during a panel at PAX East. The new game in the Borderlands series won't necessarily be named Borderlands 3, as the studio has not decided on an official title yet.
Pitchford also stated that Battleborn's upcoming DLC will contain some easter eggs with references to the untitled Borderlands game. This DLC launches on May 3rd, and though the easter eggs included probably won't give us any substantial information about Borderlands, it'll hopefully give us some small hints about the game's story.
Some of Gearbox Software's staff have confirmed that they will be working on the new Borderlands title, including original Borderlands writer Mikey Neumann, who also provided voice work for the character of Scooter, and Scott Kester, the Art Director for Battleborn.
What do you guys think? Personally, I'm really excited. I was a really big fan of the original Borderlands, and I've really enjoyed the small amount of time I've had with Battleborn.
