The Quake franchise is basically legendary in the shooter genre at this point, and it can be hard to improve on a winning formula, which is why there hasn't been a new Quake game since Enemy Territory: Quake Wars from 2007. However, the franchise will soon return, as id Software bravely announced Quake Champions at E3.

Tim Willits, head of id Software, confirmed to GameSpot that the game is PC-exclusive: "It's a PC game. No excuses. No limitations." However, that doesn't mean console gamers have been completely abandoned, as Willits suggested there was still a chance for the game to land on consoles, claiming that he still "love[s] [his] console fans," and that they're "not totally shutting the door on consoles."

There's currently no release date for Quake Champions, but more information is coming at this year's QuakeCon.
