Mario Tennis Aces launched to strong sales in June, and Nintendo is looking to keep that momentum going with regular updates. During today's Nintendo Direct, they detailed a free update headed to the game on September 19th. Version 2 of the game adds new playable characters, new challenges, and more.

Starting next Wednesday, four new characters will become unlockable through online play. The newcomers include Birdo, Shy Guy, Koopa Paratroopa, and Petey Pirahna. Aces is also getting new online co-op missions that let you team up with friends to win special outfits, new color schemes for your characters, and more. Each of these missions will be available for a limited time only.

This is just the start of Nintendo's plans to support Aces. Nintendo has confirmed they'll be continually adding new updates to the game throughout the rest of 2018 and all the way until June of next year, stopping around the game's one year anniversary.
