Back in 2016 we learned that Monster Hunter is getting a film directed by Paul W. S. Anderson, the man behind the Resident Evil film franchise. There hasn't been much word since then, but that just changed. Thanks to a report from Variety, we now have more details, including information on casting, budget, and filming location and times.
In a move that should surprise no one, Anderson has selected Milla Jovovich to start in the film. Aside from starring in Anderson's Resident Evil movies, Jovovich is also married to him. The team will kick off filming this September in South Africa, in and around Cape Town. Anderson has been given a budget of around $60 million to work with.
Anderson has previously indicated that the plot will involve a parallel world full of monsters and "very relatable American characters" who accidentally stumble upon it. The premise is that all of earth's legends and myths about monsters are distorted truths about the monsters in this parallel world, and something will happen to cause the monsters to return to our world.
