Custom consoles are an ever-growing trend in the gaming industry. Whether you are paying the local body shop to airbrush sick flames on your Xbox One or you're looking to buy one of Sony's own custom consoles, there is an undeniable coolness and status to owning one of these consoles. The NieR: Automata development team seems to think so, too, as they released a Twitter poll this past weekend asking if fans would like their own custom NieR PlayStation 4.
The tweet (translated by Gematsu) stresses the fact that this is a purely hypothetical question, suggesting that the console is not even in planning stages at the moment. Considering the poll was exclusive to the Japanese twitter account, it is entirely likely that fans of Cavia/Square Enix's bizarre RPG series in the West may never see the console if it ever does come to fruition either. Nonetheless, it will be exciting to see whether or not it does happen.
Yoko Taro, the director of Drakengard and NieR, tweeted out a very ominous response to the poll, referencing the Drakengard ending that led into the first NieR (again, thanks to Gematsu for translating).
"If there is a NieR-style game console, how about a “Summer Snow” model with salt tightly packed in the crevices of the controller buttons? Eh? You game? It can’t be done of course. Because it’s filled with salt. The substrates like the wiring will rust." — Yoko Taro
