This week has seen Nintendo give Kirby a fair bit of attention, perhaps in honor of his upcoming 24th anniversary here in the West. Kirby's Dream Land launched in North America and PAL regions on August 1st and 3rd, respectfully, of 1992, and Nintendo seems to be holding a mini-celebration of that fact this week. We've already gotten three Kirby titles brought onto the Wii U and 3DS Virtual Consoles yesterday, and this morning the website for Kirby: Planet Robobot was updated with some new concept art showing off early designs for Kirby's robotic armor.

Some new details about the development of Kirby's robots were also revealed, such as the fact that there were originally five separate types of armor proposed, called "Multi-Leg Cannon Pod," "Jet Fighter," "Gear," "Spanner," and "(Screw) Driver." You can see these five different types best in the second image of the gallery below. The idea was shot down, however, and so the team at HAL decided to focus in on a single type, choosing the Spanner. The rest, as they say, is history.

What do you think of these early designs? Do you prefer any of the other four to the Spanner type, and would you have liked to see them added to the game? How about in a future Kirby title? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
