Everyone's favorite mustachioed plumber may be Nintendo's most iconic character, but his evil counterpart deserves some love too! Wario is regularly featured in sports and party games like Mario Kart, and the mini-game series WarioWare is still going strong, but it's been many years since his last Wario Land adventure. Thankfully for the Wario faithful, that wait could soon be over!

Game blog Japanese Nintendo did some digging, and they found that Nintendo recently registered a slew of trademarks under the category "downloadable video game programs" in Japan. These trademarks include "Octo" (a likely reference to Splatoon's upcoming new content), as well as Dillon's Dead-Heat Breakers, Luigi's Mansion, Mario & Luigi, Metroid, Metroid Prime, Smash Bros., Wario Land, and WarioWare.

All of these franchises have upcoming games that have already been announced, except for Wario Land. Additionally, this is the second time Nintendo has filed a new trademark for Wario Land in the past year. Is it finally time for his glorious return to platforming?
