After the release of the incredibly popular Pokémon GO, Japan experienced a massive increase in the sales for the main games on the 3DS, doubling what the games sold before, as reported by the Wall Street Journal. It is logical that the games would sell better because of Pokémon GO's release, but this surge is still unexpected.

The Wall Street Journal reports a boost in sales for Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire and for the 3DS releases of Pokémon Red, Blue, and Yellow, which can be seen in a graph below. Sales of 3DS systems have also increased, but not by as big a margin as the games themselves. Pokémon GO has cooled down a bit lately, but its impact can still clearly be felt.
