Game Freak's beloved Pokémon franchise recently celebrated its 20th anniversary, and the series is set to evolve yet again with the launch of Pokémon Sun and Moon in just a few days. The embargo has lifted on the upcoming 3DS games, and early review scores are starting to trickle in. So far, things are looking pretty positive for the seventh generation. The two games currently each have an average review score of 88/100 on Metacritic with 24 positive reviews apiece and no mixed or negative reviews.

Reviews generally praise the game's visuals (although there are a few complaints about performance, especially on older 3DS models), the Alola region (and its new Alolan forms for old Pokémon), and some of the new features, such as Poké Ride. Several reviews complained that the game was too easy while others praised it for being accessible to newcomers.
