For the past few years, Legendary Entertainment has been working with The Pokémon Company to create a live-action adaptation of Detective Pikachu. We got our first look at the film back in November, and the response from fans was overwhelmingly positive. We're still over three months away from its theatrical debut, but if the latest report on the project is to be believed, the excitement from fans has Legendary feeling extremely confident.

According to Hollywood Reporter (the same group that broke the story of the movie's existence in the first place), Legendary is so sure they have a huge hit on their hands that they've already started working on its sequel. Legendary has apparently hired on Oren Uziel as the scriptwriter for the second film. Uziel is perhaps best known for his work on 22 Jump Street and The Cloverfield Paradox. He also has experience working with adaptations from video games, including the 2010 short film Mortal Kombat: Rebirth and one episode of the subsequent Mortal Kombat: Legacy series. He is also involved in the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog movie.

At this time, a Detective Pikachu sequel has not yet been confirmed by any of the companies involved. That said, Hollywood Reporter has proven correct in regards to Detective Pikachu in the past, so there's a good chance their scoop is right on the money. Hopefully, this means the movie will be as huge of a success as Legendary is envisioning!
