Capcom's long-running Resident Evil franchise has been drifting further and further away from its horror roots into action, but that trend came to a screeching halt today. Resident Evil VII: Biohazard is available now on PlayStation 4 (with full PlayStation VR support), Xbox One, and PC, bringing the focus back to survival-horror while immersing players in a first-person perspective. So how does this blend of old and new pan out? According to most reviews, it's a smash hit!

Resident Evil VII: Biohazard currently has an average review score of 86/100 on Metacritic, including 44 "positive" reviews and 2 "mixed" reviews. Critics are praising Capcom's latest effort as a wonderful combination of the horror that made the series great in the first place and new elements that allow it to feel more modern. Criticisms include a somewhat short play time and limited replay value, as well as some complaints about a linear ending segment that fell short of the rest of the experience. Boss fights were also a mixed bag for multiple critics. You can check out a round-up of reviews below.
