Though we've had a few game-specific Nintendo Directs over the past few months, it was last September when we saw our most recent general presentation. If a new rumor is to be believed, however, it won't be much longer before we get our next one. According to ResetEra member John Harker, a new Direct will be airing this Thursday, January 11th. Harker has been a source of correct information in the past, accurately providing news about Call of Duty and the Nintendo Switch prior to its official launch.
As with all rumors, we suggest taking this with a grain of salt until it is confirmed or denied. However, some recent events have lent credence to this rumor. Towards the end of November, Redditor OldSoul2 leaked some emails which supposedly came from within Electronic Arts. These emails, if they are indeed true, gave us our first indication that a Direct was coming in January. Adding further to this rumor is some recent activity by Amazon, which put up placeholders for over a dozen Switch titles before quickly taking them down. Finally, insider Emily Rogers, who has sometimes provided accurate information in the past, has claimed to have heard rumors about this Direct as well.
Will Nintendo host a Nintendo Direct this week? Unless they say otherwise, it's better to air on the side of caution and say no, though I'm personally hoping they do. There's sure to be a lot in the works for the Switch this year, and it'd be exciting to learn more about these titles. Maybe they'll even spring something unexpected on us! If a Direct does happen, what would you like to learn more about?
