The current console generation has been filled to the brim with a number of remakes and rereleases of older, classic titles, and today another amazing game is joining those ranks. Announced last night during Sony's pre-Tokyo Game Show press conference, Square Enix is bringing Final Fantasy IX to PlayStation 4—and if that wasn't exciting enough on its own, the game is already available right now, via the PlayStation Store.
In addition to the above trailer, Square Enix also revealed that the PS4 version will come with a number of additions and improvements. HD cutscenes and auto-save functionality will no doubt be appreciated by many, but the really useful items will be seven "booster" features that will make playing through the game far easier for veterans. These include the ability to turn off random encounters, enter a high-speed mode, and "Master All Abilities", which will let the characters "automatically master equipped weapons and gear." There's also PS4 trophy support, share button functionality, and the ability to play the game remotely via PS Vita.
You can grab Final Fantasy IX right now on the PlayStation Store, and for the first week of its availability, it looks like you can actually get it for a few bucks off its normal $21 price tag. So don't hesitate on this if you're interested!
Having never gotten to play Final Fantasy IX—despite several of my best friends counting it as their absolute favorite Final Fantasy title—I know I'll definitely be looking into getting this one. How about you? Are you excited to see this title return, or would you have preferred a different FF game come to PS4? Let us know in the comments!
