Nintendo revealed that Square Enix is working on a brand new turn-based RPG for The Switch in a trailer during last night's presentation. Not much was specifically mentioned other than its working title, Project Octopath Traveler, however the trailer itself presented some very gorgeous pixel art mixed in with some fancy water and fire effects. The art and pixel work itself is reminiscent of the Final Fantasy Tactics spinoff series, indicating that the Tactics team itself may be involved.
This is purely speculation, however, it seems like Octopath Traveler may be a new SaGa game. The trailer features several playable characters and what little of the battle system we see does appear to evoke the classic series. The name Octopath Traveler also seems to imply there are eight paths to travel, as if there are eight characters to pick from (a common trope within the SaGa series). The artwork shown in the trailer also prominently shows off that there are indeed eight characters. As mentioned, all of this is just based on observation and is not actually fact. We will have to wait for more information from either Nintendo or Square Enix to find out exactly what this game.
