San Diego Comic-Con starts July 19th, and SEGA has some major plans in store for their flagship series. Sonic the Hedgehog will be the main focus of Sonic the Hedgehog's Way Past Cool panel, which will discuss Sonic's current endeavors in IDW's comics, his upcoming games, and apparently a few extra surprises.

The panel will be held on Thursday, the first day of Comic-Con. It starts at 2:00 PM Pacific Time and lasts one hour. The head of Sonic Team, Takashi Iizuka, will be headlining the panel. There will also be a mix of people from IDW comics, with IDW editors Joe Hughes and David Mariotte and comic artist Evan Stanley, in addition to SEGA's licensing specialist Michael Cisneros and SEGA's director of product development Austin Keys. According to the SDCC description, the panel will "discuss comics and upcoming games, make some surprise announcements, and more!"

The exact details of the "surprise announcements" are vague. They could be anything from future comic storylines, to character announcements for Team Sonic Racing, to an entirely new video game being announced. With the number of panelists from IDW, most of the discussion will probably focus on Sonic's new comic series, but hopes remain high that we'll get to hear about some new video games coming our way. And hopefully it's something Chao-related, likelihood be damned.
