Console and PC gamers alike can rejoice to the sound of 1-on-1 fighting this weekend as Tekken 7 launches on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Steam. The latest chapter of the arcade classic is powered by Unreal Engine 4, promising "highly detailed characters, dynamic animations, and unique environments."
Katsuhiro Harada, Franchise Director at BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment Inc., thinks it was well worth the team's diligent efforts, adding that:
"We've put our blood, sweat, and souls into bringing TEKKEN 7 to home consoles in the hope that new players and long-time fans will enjoy our work. This is a true passion project and I hope players will be able to feel [our] dedication to our art as they play TEKKEN 7." — Katsuhiro Harada
New fighters fill the roster, with over 30 fan favorites still in play—each with their own unique moves, styles, and combos, of course. Akuma, from Ultra Street Fighter IV, also joins the fray along with all his "trademark shoto-style move set and fireballs." With a rage system and new abilities such as Rage Arts, Power Crushes, and Rage Drives, fans seem to be well catered for during every battle.
Tekken 7 closes the final chapter of the Mishima blood saga, indulging the storyline aficionados with an epic ending to the 20-year-long feud between members of the Mishima Clan. Settling old scores in a dynamic 3D space, the fighters continue their struggle for ultimate mastery.
For the (even) more competitively minded, Eric Hartness, Vice President of Marketing at BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment America Inc. promises a World Tour series:
"The fiercest fighters who rise through the TEKKEN World Tour will face-off at the TEKKEN World Finals taking place in North America in November this year. We look forward to pitting the toughest TEKKEN 7 players against each other; crowning new King of the Iron Fist Champions for many years to come." — Eric Hartness
The game retails at $59.99 for the regular edition. The digital deluxe edition, at $84.99, adds a Season Pass which includes: Playable Characters, New Stages, New Game Mode, Costume Pack, and a bonus Metallic Costume Pack with over 35 different pieces. It also grants you access to three Tekken 7 content packs sold separately, at a 17% discount. There is also a Collector's Edition available for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One only, and for $149.99 this includes: 12" x 18" Kazuya & Heihachi Figure, Tekken 7 Original Game Soundtrack, Steel Book, Collector's Box, and Tekken 7 Day 1 Edition Game Software.
