Defying the Steamworks' non-disclosure agreement earlier this week, a couple of Reddit users divulged this year's Steam Summer Sale dates. While we have no official announcement, what's to stop wild speculation and summertime hype with a month (allegedly) left to go to the yearly fund-draining bonanza? Last year's dates were from the 23rd of June to the 4th of July 2016, and if the leaked information is to be believed it appears as though this year's will not be much different.
Regulars to the /r/Steam subreddit may have already caught wind of the promised dates, and here they are again for those who didn't.
Reddit user deliteplays posted a screenshot on the 10th of May from the Steamworks Developer group which reads:
"The 2017 Steam Summer Sale runs from Jun 22, 2017 @ 9:50am Pacific to Jul 5, 2017 @ 10:05am Pacific"
Confirming this with another screenshot (and highlighting their breach of confidentiality), user Jelman21's comment reply corroborates this information:
"Please note that this information is confidential.
Do not post event details on the Steam Community or on your own site(s) until the sale has officially begun.
- The 2017 Summer Sale runs from Jun 22, 2017 @ 9:50am Pacific to Jul 5, 2017 @ 10:05am Pacific"
While it's likely that both users have access to Steam Developer groups and the sensitive information contained therein, it's also possible that the images are fabricated. Valve may also amend the dates following this leak, but previous years' sales tend to fall around the same time regardless.
For now, all we can do is eagerly await an official announcement some time in next month, all while filling out our wishlists in preparation. Which titles are you looking forward to nabbing at a discount? What was the best deal you picked up in previous years? Let us know in the comments!
