Ever since its launch in 2016, Pokémon GO has been one of the most popular and lucrative mobile games in the world, and The Pokémon Company has seen massively increased profits as a result. Unsurprisingly, they're looking to keep that cash flowing by following up GO with more mobile titles. Pokémon Quest launched earlier this year on Switch and mobile platforms and achieved a modest amount of success, but The Pokémon Company isn't stopping there.
According to a new hiring ad on LinkedIn, The Pokémon Company is once again gearing up for a mobile adventure. They're currently looking to recruit a Principal Game Designer, which suggests the project is still early in development. This is further supported by the fact that the job's tasks include defining " the ideal feature" and "vision" for the game, suggesting that little is set in stone at this time. The listing also repeatedly stresses a focus on having fun at work and understanding what makes games fun.
Things really get interesting when you scroll down the page a bit. Under the " Meet the Team" section, Nikolaus Davidson is listed as being attached to the project as a Principal Designer, so there's at least one person already actively working on the game's vision. Davidson has been at The Pokémon Company since last July after previously working at Wizards of the Coast, where he worked extensively on Magic: Arena for nearly five years. Given his expertise, could this project be a new version of the Pokémon Trading Card Game?
