As we all know, Satoru Iwata, the late CEO and President of Nintendo, tragically passed away earlier this year due to complications from bile duct cancer. In a touching tribute to him, an artist named GandaKris has put up a charity auction on eBay for a custom Amiibo based on Iwata's Mii character. All proceeds from this auction will go towards Child's Play, a non-profit charity that gives game consoles to children in domestic violence shelters and hospitals. At the time of writing, the Amiibo is selling for over $355, with eight days left in the auction.
This is the official eBay listing for the auction:
"GandaKris has created what we believe to be the most touching, and inspirational custom amiibo ever created. In Iwata-san’s memory we will be donating 100% of the proceeds directly to Child’s Play, a non-profit charity dedicated to providing children in hospitals with toys and video games.
"Child’s Play works in two ways. With the help of hospital staff, we set up gift wish lists full of video games, toys, books, and other fun stuff for kids. Child’s Play also receives cash donations throughout the year. With those cash donations, we purchase new consoles, peripherals, games, and more for hospitals and therapy facilities. These donations allow for children to enjoy age-appropriate entertainment, interact with their peers, friends, and family, and can provide vital distraction from an otherwise generally unpleasant experience."
What do you guys think? Personally, I think this is heartwarming; it's great that people are honoring Satoru Iwata, and it's beautiful to see how his work has inspired people to donate to charities and help others in his name.
