The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is headed to both Wii U and Nintendo Switch sometime next year. Those of us lucky enough to try out the Wii U version at events like E3 and Gamescom encountered considerable frame rate drops (Digital Foundry's technical analysis of the game showed it frequently dipping to around 20 frames per second), and similar slow-down has been seen in recent trailers.
Last night we finally got our first look at the Switch version of the game, as Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime gave Jimmy Fallon the chance to try it out on The Tonight Show. GameXplain has analyzed the new footage frame by frame, and they were unable to find a single dip in frame rate. The game runs at (at least) 30 frames per second, and the frame rate remains steady even when there's an on-screen explosion (something that caused lag on the Wii U version) or when the game is being played on the handheld unit. Hopefully this is true of the full game!
