Since its announcement, long-time fans of the PlayStation consoles have hoped that once-famous former icons of the PlayStation's early years, Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon, would be playable in PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale. Much to fans' dismay, the two characters were not in the game's final roster and are currently unplanned as DLC, but while still quite far away, it would appear that the fans are closer than ever to making this dream a reality.

Thanks to a recent twitter campaign, Crash and Spyro may not be so unlikely for future rounds of PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale DLC. They have solicited an official response via Twitter, and though it's no promise, if enough fans board the support train, Crash and Spyro may just become a reality.

Johnathan Blow, creator of hit indie game Braid, stepped on stage at the PlayStation meeting on February 20th to show off his new aventure-puzzle game for PlayStation 4, The Witness. The Witness looks and sounds absolutely gorgeous and many assumed that it would be an exclusive title to PlayStation 4, but Johnathan Blow has other plans.

"Basically, you'll see The Witness on PS4 before you'll see it on the next Microsoft console or on the Wii U, presuming we eventually do ports to those consoles. Ideally we want the game to be in as many places as we can get it, but since we are a small developer and it's a complicated game, we can only do so much at once...

...People are speculating that we did this because of money, but that is not the case at all. We like the console and we like the people we are working with; we were already developing a PS4 port of the game, which prevents us from doing other console ports anyway, again because we can only do so much. So it was only a small step to go from this practical fact of development to a formal agreement signed on paper." — Johnathan Blow

It's exciting to see that The Witness will eventually be available to all who hope to play it, but it's sad to see Sony miss out on another exclusive title for the PlayStation 4. Are you excited for Sony's version, or would you rather wait to play it on the Wii U?


February 20th brought Sony fans one of the most significant days in years, and it brought us over five pages of new content. In the stream of news, some of you readers have surely missed a few stories, so we've decided to compile every piece of PlayStation 4 news from the last two days into one convenient list. In spite of the PlayStation Vita's price cut in its home country of Japan, it will not receive one in North America. In Japan, the system went from 30,000 yen (3G) and 25,000 yen (Wi-Fi only) to 19,980 yen. This price cut won't happen in America, though, due to the yen decreasing in value to .93 cents per US dollar, so Sony loses money on products sold internationally. 

Due to the Vita's poor sales, Sony has been trying to bolster them with the promise of connectivity with the PlayStation 4. If the company wishes to improve sales this way, they should fix the flaws of the Vita's connectivity with the PlayStation 3.


Yesterday's PlayStation meeting brought us a lot of big news. If you're looking for a good laugh check out the abridged version of the PlayStation meeting by VideoGamerTV. Backwards compatibility is a big factor in a console's success. PlayStation 2 could play all PlayStation games, and PlayStation 3 had options for both past consoles at some point or another. We've just learned that because of the setup of the PlayStation 4's innards, Sony has opted not to allow the console to play games from their brand's older consoles.

As an alternative to loading older discs, Sony has decided to offer a cloud-based game streaming service that allows PlayStation 4 owners to stream games from older console generations to their new system and play online. While this is a great option for players to have, making it the only available option cuts off dozens of users whose internet is either too unstable or too slow to support this kind of streaming. Hopefully in the coming months, they reveal an alternative way to play older games, such as the PlayStation Classics section of PSN. Until then, cloud-based game streaming is the only service we can be sure of.

In a corporate release about Sony's upcoming PlayStation 4, Sony has revealed that the remote play feature available between PlayStation 4 and PS Vita is coming to smartphones.

PS4 integrates second screens, including PlayStation®Vita (PS Vita), smartphones and tablets, to wrap gamers in their favorite content wherever they are. A key feature enabled by second screens is “Remote Play” and PS4 fully unlocks its potential by making PS Vita the ultimate companion device. With PS Vita, gamers will be able to seamlessly pull PS4 titles from their living room TVs and play them on PS Vita’s beautiful 5-inch display and intuitive dual analog sticks over Wi-Fi networks. It is SCEI’s long-term vision is to make most PS4 titles playable on PS Vita.

A new application from SCE called “PlayStation®App” will enable iPhone, iPad, and AndroidTM based smartphones and tablets to become second screens. Once installed on these devices, users can, for example, see maps on their second screens when playing an adventure game, purchase PS4 games while away from home and download it directly to the console at home, or remotely watch other gamers playing on their devices. 

The only question left is how on Earth remote play would work on a device with no tactile buttons.

Off-TV play has been gracing Wii U owners for quite some time now, and Sony has decided that it's a wonderful feature. That's no attack on them, it really is a wonderful feature. Gamers who own a PS Vita and a PlayStation 4 will be able to connect the two devices and play console games on a portable screen, very much like the Wii U and its GamePad offer. Unfortunately, gamers who want this option are going to have to cough up the money for two consoles instead of the one they need for Wii U. Will you get a Vita just for "remote play," or is this feature not worth the extra cash to you?

This week's video game sales charts for the eastern market are now in, and Nintendo is crushing the competition as proudly as ever, claiming every one of the top ten games, nine of which are on Nintendo 3DS. Console sales are also in, with Nintendo 3DS and Wii in the top two, Wii U just outperforming the PSP in the number four slot, and Xbox 360 all the way at the bottom with a pathetic 506 units sold all week.

Jason Jones, co-founder of Bungie and one of the creators of the massively successful Halo series, was recently asked about the studio's upcoming Destiny. When asked whether or not the upcoming title may come to PC, Jones had this to say:

"We did a bunch of ambitious things on Halo deliberately to reach out to people. We limited players to two weapons, we gave them recharging health, we automatically saved and restored the game — almost heretical things to first-person shooters at the time. We made the game run without a mouse and keyboard. And now nobody plays shooters the way they used to play them before Halo 'cause nobody wants to." — Jason Jones, co-founder of Bungie

Now, some may say he's dodging the question here, but in a strange way, he may actually be hinting that a PC version of the game is not likely to hit anytime soon. The tangent he goes on, however, is also interesting to dissect. It's a pretty tall claim to say that Bungie laid the foundation of the entire modern FPS genre, but in some ways, Jones is right. Health packs and quicksaving are still features found in many First-Person Shooters, but autosaving and recharging health is found everywhere in the genre. Before the first Halo, these features were unheard of and most shooters where played on PCs, but Halo was also one of the first few games to popularize console-based shooters to their modern prevalence. Let's just hope Bungie's upcoming Destiny challenges convention in an equally spectacular way.

Upset that Destiny hasn't been announced for the Wii U or PC yet? Don't be, it could be coming to both platforms and more! The official website for Bungie's upcoming game Destiny has data that can be found in its coding from the pre-order page that directly refers to both the Wii U, PC, PS4, Xbox 720, and PS Vita as platforms for the upcoming title. There is no mention of Nintendo's handheld 3DS platform however.

Of course, this could just be there in case Activision asks them to bring it over to those platforms and so it may mean nothing at all. Or perhaps Bungie is anticipating a release on these platforms. Whatever it means, we here just hope that it means every home console owner will be able to experience Bungie's next big title when it launches in the future.

Sony might not be able to compete with Nintendo's software, so why not smack-talk about it? Let's face it, we all know the PlayStation 4 is coming soon and we expect it to be announced this upcoming Wednesday. So what better way to get people excited for it than by smack-talking about Mario? 

"Oh, Yay, Another Mario Game." Step Up To PlayStation 2/20

Okay, that doesn't make too much sense considering people love Mario and none of Sony's IP's can even come close to rivaling it. But it does make you take notice that Mario games are in a somewhat overabundance and that you want something new. Something fresh. Preferably not another post-apocalyptic zombie shooter or adventure with Kratos. So the phrase "Oh, Yay, Another Mario Game." can be applied to some of Sony's own games/ideas since half of them are rip-offs of other ideas/games anyways. But despite this, I'm quite looking forward to the PlayStation 4 and Sony's next console despite the hideous controller. How about you? Are you excited for PlayStation 4?

As we're getting close to a new handheld release from Sony, a lot of rumors are flying around. Gamerxchange has a few rumors to add to the mix today, and Sony just released a new patent request with some new ports and details on the system. Although it's certainly hard to know exactly what the system will look like, we can certainly see what other people are reporting and draw our own conclusions.

Vita a Difficult Sell?

There's one question you've got to keep asking yourself if you're Sony corporate executive officer Masaru Kato and your handheld system is constantly being crushed by DS and 3DS sales; how do I sell more of these Vitas?  There's certainly a lot of ways to incentivise sales, and with the super competitive market and the dwindling economy, it's difficult to know exactly how to get that edge over your competitor.  Well, Kato went on record last Thursday to attempt to answer that question in particular.  His response?  See below.
Sorry Aussies; looks like another great third party Wii U title won't be coming your way.  Although a press release sent to media today regarding the game's pre-order DLC incentives, and until this week was listed on various local Australian game distributors websites, The Walking Dead: Survival instinct will not be released on the Wii U in Australia.
